PHLDA1 and PHLDA2 are evolutionarily conserved proline-histidine rich nuclear proteins from the PH-like superfamily, with PHLDA1 being a follicular stem-cell marker associated with tumor grade and aggressive behavior in follicular and sebaceous tumors42–44, and PHLDA2 being an imprinted gene that is a prognostic marker in osteosarcoma and a modulator of the Wnt3A β-catenin pathway, critical for mesenchymal transition40,41. The gene discussed is PHLDA2; the disease is osteosarcoma.
