The development of inflammation in AMD, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, retinopathy of prematurity, and glaucoma seems to be regulated by interleukin-1 (IL-1) family members, as well as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and its counterpart interleukin-10 (IL-10) [20,21,22]. The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
