DCX and Alzheimer disease: In another animal model of AD, Ghosal et al. [180] reported that AICD transgenic mice (coexpressing the 59-residue long AICD fragment and Fe65, which form the transcriptionally active complex to regulate several genes involved in in the process of neurogenesis) had reduced numbers of BrdU+ cells and DCX+ cells in the SGZ at three months of age to at least 12 months of age, thus, demonstrating decreased hippocampal neurogenesis.
