Recent studies have revealed the critical role of several miRNAs in the energy homeostasis by affecting the expression of genes and proteins involved in metabolic processes.11, 25 Some miRNAs have been implicated in the control of body weight, glucose homeostasis, insulin sensitivity and lipid metabolism,31, 32 suggesting that miRNAs could be used as therapeutic targets for the treatment of metabolic disorders, but also as predictive biomarkers.11 Here, INS is linked to metabolic disease.
