There are no studies comparing the expression of α-SMA between different primary tumour sites in HNSCC; however, this difference can be explained due to the association observed between the presence of CAFs and the clinical stage, considering that 80% of laryngeal SCC cases were in advanced clinical stages, while only 30% of cases of oral and nasosinusal SCC were in these stages. This evidence concerns the gene ACTA1 and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
