Variations in the SCD in humans alter enzyme activity (Stryjecki et al., 2012) and might be involved in individual susceptibility to obesity (Martin‐Nunez et al., 2013), C‐reactive protein (CRP) levels (Stryjecki et al., 2012), metabolic syndrome (Gong et al., 2011), and insulin sensitivity (Warensjo et al., 2007). This evidence concerns the gene SCD and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
