Interestingly, both miR-26a, as part of a signature group of miRNAs known to be deregulated in Alzheimer's disease (Cogswell et al., 2008; Leidinger et al., 2013), and GSK3β, which has shown increased activity leading to tau hyperphosphorylation in various Alzheimer's disease models, have been implicated in neurodegenerative processes (Dargahi et al., 2015; Hooper et al., 2008).
