SEPT2 and 11 are overexpressed in renal cell carcinoma (Craven et al. 2006), SEPT4 in colorectal cancer (Zieger et al. 2000; Tanaka et al. 2001), while the level of SEPT9 decreases progressively during tumorigenesis due to gene methylation during colorectal cancer progression (Toth et al. 2011), consequently SEPT9 test is used to screen early-stage colon cancer (Warren et al. 2011). This evidence concerns the gene SEPTIN9 and hereditary clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
