The fact that accumulated p62, upregulated FOXO1/3, and reduced ROS levels coexist in the liver of type 2 diabetes animal models indicate that the p62-FOXO1/3 axis is not dominant in diabetic liver and suggest that there are other mechanisms underlying the upregulation of FOXO1/3 in diabetic liver which could have suppressed the downregulating effect of accumulated p62 on FOXO1/3 level. This evidence concerns the gene SQSTM1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
