Elevated IL-27Ralpha expression on the surface of mDCs, increased STAT3 phosphorylation and preeminent expression of inhibitory receptors after IL-27 stimulation suggest compensatory mechanisms due to ongoing inflammation and immunomodulatory role of IL-27 in T1D pathogenesis; however, the precise function of IL-27 in vivo needs further investigation. This evidence concerns the gene IL27RA and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
