While some studies report NDRG2 expression in pyramidal neurons, senile plaques and dystrophic neurons in the hippocampus in AD [15], more recent studies investigating the expression of NDRG2 in a variety of mammalian brains, including human, demonstrate that NDRG2 is a specific marker for astrocytes and co-localises with the majority of known astrocyte markers [13,14]. The gene discussed is NDRG2; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
