Upon the occurrence of DVT, endothelial cells are activated in response to endothelial injury, and this activation results in increased surface expression of cell adhesion molecules (CAMs), such as P-selectin, E-selectin, vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1), and intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1), promoting adhesion and activation of leukocytes to the endothelium, amplifying thrombosis and inflammation [9,10]. Here, ICAM1 is linked to deep vein thrombosis.
