There is a reverse correlation between adiponectin levels and insulin resistance and adiponectin also have an antagonistic effect with leptin in liver inflammatory and fibrosis.46, 47 Furthermore, HFD consumption decreases adiponectin levels and probably increase NASH progression.48 In a previous study, adiponectin levels were found to be low in NAFLD and lower in NASH patients.46 This evidence concerns the gene ADIPOQ and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
