MiR-142-5p was found to be strongly correlated with B lymphocytes, but also, more moderately, with CD3+, CD4+, and total lymphocyte cell numbers; all blood circulating cell populations were found to be augmented, together with this miRNA, in the plasma of T1D children with a lower serum concentration of C-peptide compared to children with a higher serum concentration of C-peptide (Figure 2). Here, CD4 is linked to type 1 diabetes mellitus.
