Interestingly, Tie-Jun Li et al. [43] reported that the expression of MMP7 in oral cancer tissues was highly elevated compared with that in oral lichen planus (OLP); MMP7 expression in OLP was significantly higher than that in the normal oral mucosa at both the mRNA and protein levels, suggesting that MMP7 might be an early precancerous indicator for OSCC owing to the confirmation of OLP as the canonical precancerous lesion. This evidence concerns the gene MMP7 and lip and oral cavity carcinoma.
