RNA was extracted from planktonic and biofilm-grown cells from a chicken necrotic enteritis strain (CP4), and it was found that transcription of the pilB2, pilC2, and pilM genes were significantly reduced in the biofilm cells, suggesting that downregulation of transcription of the major TFP locus (Fig. 1) occurred in this strain [30]. The gene discussed is TRIM39; the disease is enteritis.
