Among the tested compounds, only sanguiin-H6 showed cytotoxic effects towards resistant MCF-7 cancer cells, probably due to the release of sanguisorbic acid dilactone, which inhibited ABC transporters, thus diminishing the ability of cells to extrude other products of sanguiin-H6 hydrolysis (ellagic acid, depsides), with cytotoxic effects [218]. The gene discussed is ABCG2; the disease is cancer.
