Amlexanox is an FDA‐approved drug for the treatment of aphthous ulcers, rediscovered as IKKε/TBK1 inhibitor, that in mice improves obesity‐related metabolic dysfunction (Reilly et al, 2013), suggesting that it targets processes linking inflammation to metabolism. The gene discussed is IKBKE; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
