Importantly, several studies have demonstrated that overexpression of the Bcl-2 family proteins is not always sufficient to induce pro-invasive properties of cancer cells, and could require the co-expression of other proteins stimulating invasiveness, such as c-Myc (Lu and Hong, 2009), N-Myc (Noujaim et al., 2002), or Twist1 (Sun et al., 2011). The gene discussed is TWIST1; the disease is cancer.
