Interestingly, there is evidence for a strong link between immune cells, such as TAMs, CD3+ T-cells, FoxP3+ T-regs, and mast cells, and VEGF expression with increasing malignancy, suggesting that immune cells influence tumor angiogenesis through secretion of VEGF (Restucci et al., 2002; Im et al., 2011; Raposo et al., 2013; Carvalho et al., 2015a, 2016a).
