Neuroprotective effects of ovarian hormones, in particular estradiol, are well characterized, and they include the downregulation of amyloidosis (Pike et al., 2009), the modulation of PI3K signaling (Marin et al., 2005; Arevalo et al., 2015), and the regulation of synaptic proteins like PSD95 (Luine et al., 2018) or synapsin (Rebas et al., 2005). This evidence concerns the gene DLG4 and amyloidosis.
