Of note is the increase in MMP-10 and TIMP-1 in T2DM despite the absence of a significant decrease in eGFR: TIMP-1 begins to increase when the eGFR is still above 90 ml/min/1.73 m2, while MMP-10 increases with an eGFR lower than 90, but greater than 60 ml/min/1.73 m2. This evidence concerns the gene TIMP1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
