In support of this finding Liu et al. (2016) observed that in tumor xenograft assays of lung carcinoma carried out in WT or G1 TERT knockout mice (without detectable telomere dysfunction), tumor development as well as VEGF expression were reduced in TERT–/– mice compared to WT suggesting that TERT deficiency affects tumorigenesis and tumor vascular development (Liu et al., 2016).
