Important markers of inflammation in CKD are C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1 (IL-1), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), adipokines, adhesion molecules and the CD40 ligand, which have been particularly implicated in the progression of CKD (Figure 1). This evidence concerns the gene IL6 and chronic kidney disease.
