Contrary to a previous report on the short form of PML/RARa ectopically transfected in breast cancer MCF7 cells [47], our data show that in primary leukemic cells and in leukemic and non hematologic cell lines NRF2 action is hampered by PML/RARa: Its life span and transcriptional function are indeed highly reduced in the presence of PML/RARa, therefore its function in response to ROS accumulation results is insufficient (Figure 5).
