In fact, in a recent study, in 5X-FAD AD model of mice, increasing adult neurogenesis and simultaneous BDNF treatment increases cognitive output yet adult neurogenesis or BDNF alone are not sufficient to do so [7], suggesting that a BDNF-dependent neuronal survival cascade is required to counteract the symptoms of AD after an independent stimulation of neurogenesis.
