The 18 kDa translocator protein (TSPO), also known as a peripheral‐type benzodiazepine receptor,16 is mainly expressed in an outer mitochondrial membrane, and its expression is upregulated by specific types of neoplastic cells such as gliomas,13, 17 activated microglia,18, 19, 20 and reactive astrocytes21 associated with neuroinflammation. This evidence concerns the gene TSPO and central nervous system cancer.
