WNK2 and myopia: Atropine inhibited the expression and secretion of TGF-β2 by blocking MRs in RPE cells.82 Atropine also decreased TGF-β1 activity levels and increased bFGF2 activity levels in primary mouse SF in a dose-dependent manner.48 Transforming growth factor-β1 stimulates collagen synthesis by primary SF in vitro in a dose-dependent manner and thus has been implicated in the regulation of scleral remodeling during myopia development.83 bFGF2, on the other hand, activates Ras/mitogen activated protein kinase-mediated signaling in mouse SF48 and stimulates SF proliferation.84
