The plausible association between SOD2 genetic imbalance and depression is based on well‐documented evidence that chronic psychological stress is associated with ROS overproduction and the pathogenesis of depression (Floyd, Towner, He, Hensley, & Maples, 2011; Michel et al., 2007; Siegrist & Sies, 2017; Wei et al., 2009). This evidence concerns the gene SOD2 and depressive symptom measurement.
