A higher number of neutrophils (CD11b+Ly6G+), macrophages and activated macrophages (CD11b+F4/80+MHC-II+ and CD11b+F4/80+CD86+) were found in the lungs of mice infected with the ΔzipD mutant when compared with wild-type infection (Fig 9A and 9B). This evidence concerns the gene CD86 and infection.
