NS2B-NS3 protease has been known for cleaving 31 human proteins, which were identified by unbiased N-terminomics, particularly during Zika virus infection depletion of protein such as autophagy-related protein 16-1 (ATG16L1) and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4 gamma 1 (eIF4G1), which mediates type-II interferon production and host-cell translation, respectively, possibly involve in immune system evasion and driving the Zika life cycle as well as in mediating neurotoxicity through cleavage of host proteins [24, 25]. The gene discussed is EIF4G1; the disease is Zika virus infectious disease.
