Obesity is associated with a low-grade chronic systemic inflammatory state characterized by elevation of acute-phase proteins such as C-reactive protein (CRP) produced by the liver [25] and IL-6, secreted by adipocytes and adipose tissue macrophages [26–28], as well as by an increase in TNF-α by adipose tissue [29]. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
