LCN2 is a reliable indicator of hepatic damage and positively correlated with inflammation [18]; therefore, the elevation of Lcn2 in the livers of L1-Tg mice fed a HFD (Additional file 1: Figure S3) supports a previous study that shows that the activation of innate immune systems is related to hepatic NPC1L1-mediated steatosis [11].
