GCK and diabetes mellitus: In the combined analysis of alcohol consumption and genetic variants groups, the Kaplan–Meier curves showed that chronic heavy drinkers carrying the C allele of GCK rs758989 and those not carrying the AACT haplotype (−/−) of INSR had a higher probability of developing diabetes over the 12-year follow-up period (log-rank test p = 0.0012 compared to never-drinkers with C allele of GCK and p = 0.0012 compared to never-drinkers with AACT haplotype, respectively, Fig. 1).
