SOD1 and infection: Based on the experimental data mentioned above, we can attribute the ZT-enhanced pathogen resistance in salt-stressed peanut plants to the factors below: Zn as a nutrient can improve plant growth and primary metabolism, which can improve the biosynthesis of more antioxidants (e.g. SOD and CAT) and defense compounds (e.g. PPO and PAL) under salt stress; the direct bactericidal effects of both Zn and the thiazole group of ZT; and this alleviated pathogen infection would also further improve plant salt tolerance and vice versa.
