Lack of mCLCA1 correlated with a more than two-fold increase of IL-17 and CXCL-1 mRNA in the distal colon during the development of DSS-induced colitis, similar to what was reported from S. aureus-induced pneumonia, although accumulation of neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes in the proximal and distal colon following colitis induction did not differ between Clca1−/− and WT mice. This evidence concerns the gene CLCA1 and pneumonia.
