TTR and familial amyloid neuropathy: ATTRwt amyloidosis, traditionally called senile systemic amyloidosis, is caused by misfolding and aggregation of wild-type TTR [2], especially in people older than 65, while ATTRv amyloidosis, also known as familial amyloidotic polyneuropathy, and familial amyloidotic cardiomyopathy are due to various mutations [3,4] which can accelerate the misfolding and aggregation of TTR.
