These actions block the release of arachidonic acid and its subsequent eicosanoids (prostaglandins, thromboxanes, prostacyclins and leukotrienes).5 This affects the blood‐retinal barrier with a reduction in fibroblast proliferation, collagen and scar formation, retinal oedema, fibrin deposition, capillary leakage, intraretinal migration of inflammatory cells and levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
