The first approach is the use of mAbs to target tumor antigens and kill cancer cells.19 The main targets for therapeutic mAbs for anticancer indications are growth factor receptors that are overexpressed in tumor cells, such as members of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) family, including EGFR and HER2.15, 19 mAbs block these receptors, in turn blocking ligand binding/signaling, which can decrease growth rate, induce apoptosis and sensitize tumors to chemotherapy.
