Also consistent with previous data was the finding that synapses near plaques were significantly more likely to co-localize with Aβ (Fig. 4B, Kruskal–Wallis test χ2(4) = 21.18, P = 0.0003, post hoc Mann–Whitney U between Alzheimer's disease APOE3 near and APOE3 far P = 0.0286 and between Alzheimer's disease APOE4 near and APOE4 far P = 0.0006) and that this increase was greater in APOE4 Alzheimer's disease cases (post hoc Mann–Whitney U between Alzheimer's disease APOE3 near versus Alzheimer's disease APOE4 near P = 0.0061). This evidence concerns the gene APOE and Alzheimer disease.
