Iron homeostasis has been previously associated with adiposity, perhaps mediated by obesity induced inflammation.[38] In one study of mice fed high fat diets, TFR2 was more highly expressed in adipose tissue compared to mice fed a usual diet.[35] However, the direction of our findings differ from this report, as in our study, increased TFR2 methylation was positively associated with leptin levels.
