The dysregulated genes included genes related to esophageal epithelial type 2 inflammation (MUC4, a specific mucin in response to TH2 cytokines; SYNPO2, a gene upregulated in EoE mucosa; and FLG, a membranal barrier molecule downregulated in patients with EoE).The presence of this genetic dysregulation in patients born with EA at baseline before the development of EoE might be the reason why there is a higher prevalence of EoE in this population. This evidence concerns the gene FLG and eosinophilic esophagitis.
