In our study, we evaluated the latter group of indicators by questioning the association of an important host alarmin, interleukin-33, with schistosomiasis infection and/or liver fibrosis in a well-characterized foci of schistosomiasis in rural Cameroon where other infectious diseases (malaria, hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C) are also common (4). The gene discussed is IL33; the disease is schistosomiasis.
