Network and pathway analyses of shared genes between AD and T2D resulted in a network enriched in genes associated with infectious diseases and inflammation, including hepatitis C, Escherichia coli infection, Epstein–Barr virus infection, nuclear factor kappa B (NFKB) signaling pathway, and the PI3K-AKT signaling pathway (Figure 6). This evidence concerns the gene AKT1 and Alzheimer disease.
