Considering the relatively high mutation rate of KIT in melanoma, as compared to other mutated oncogens of other solid tumors where target therapy is available (see for example lung adenocarcinoma), it seems to be mandatory to screen BRAF/NRAS double wild type melanoma patients for KIT mutations at least in exon 11/13, irrespective of the type of melanoma. This evidence concerns the gene KIT and lung adenocarcinoma.
