Nevertheless, it is reassuring to see that the top canonical pathway we identified (hepatic fibrosis/hepatic stellar cell activation) (Fig 2B) is driven by molecular factors that are known to play an important role in angiogenesis: VEGF, fibroblast growth factor (FGF), platelet derived growth factor (PDGF-BB), transforming growth factor (TGF-α and–β), insulin growth factor (IGF-1), and endothelin signaling pathways (Fig 2C).
