In addressing the mechanism by which GB cells infiltrate into the brain and affect the neighboring neurons, we have shown in the Drosophila glioma model that GB cells display a network of TMs that enwrap neurons, accumulate Fz1, and vampirize neuronal Wg causing neurodegeneration, as evidenced by TEM images, Wg and Fz1 staining, Wg pathway activity reporters, GRASP, and PLA experiments. This evidence concerns the gene FZD1 and central nervous system cancer.
