Interestingly, loss-of-function experiments revealed that cells silenced for ZEB1 show blunted migration and invasion relative to control non-silenced cells, a behavior similar to that observed in silenced FOXE1 cells, which clearly demonstrates that FOXE1 regulates migration and invasion in thyroid cancer cells, at least in part, through ZEB1. The gene discussed is FOXE1; the disease is thyroid cancer.
