Consistent with previous studies which reported decreased levels of IGF-1, IGFBP-3, and insulin, and increased levels of ghrelin in the cord blood of IUGR neonates [17, 34–36], our data showed significantly lower levels of IGF-1 and higher levels of ghrelin in the cord blood samples from the SGA neonates compared with those from the non-SGA neonates. This evidence concerns the gene IGFBP3 and fetal growth restriction.
