In A375 melanoma cells, Δ40p53α/p53α complexes had modified promoter activity at LRDD and CDKN1A genes contributing to shifting cell-fate outcome in favour of apoptosis compared to cell-cycle arrest (upregulation of PIDD and downregulation of p21) despite exposure to γ-irradiation, an established trigger for p53-mediated DNA damage and cell cycle arrest [66]. The gene discussed is CDKN1A; the disease is melanoma.
